It is provided as a courtesy for individuals who are still using these technologies. This page may contain URLs that were valid when originally published, but now link to sites or pages that no longer exist. Summary: Learn how to the lily blake automate the creation and formatting of tables in Word.

Get information about optimizing performance, populating a table with data, formatting table structure, linking table data, and Holy Essay, extracting data from a table. (25 printed pages) Cindy Meister, Word MVP. Applies to: Microsoft Office Word 2003, Microsoft Word 2002, Microsoft Word 2000, Microsoft Word 97. You can look at the world as split into applications that store data (databases) and applications that present information, such as Microsoft Office Word 2003 and Microsoft Office PowerPoint 2003. Increasingly, the end user demands to display database content in documents and presentations. While Word does provide some tools for displaying tables from databases in its documents, these are somewhat rudimentary, they require a basic understanding of how the william blake, database is built, and A Lesson Before Dying Essay, using them involves a number of steps. In addition, there may also be security and access issues involved, requiring additional layers of protection. The developer is therefore increasingly confronted with the task of transferring data into Word, whether in blake the form of tables, or as part of the document text. This article considers some of the major aspects of using the Word object model to work with tables.

One of the bigger mysteries for developers unfamiliar with the Word object model is determining the most appropriate method to automate the Before Dying Essay, creation and the lily william blake, formatting of tables in Word. The task has a number of aspects. In this article, I discuss: Optimizing performance when working with tables. Populating a table with data. Formatting the table structure and analysis, data. Linking table data in from another application. Extracting data from a Word table.

I will show you the code, with samples in classic Microsoft Visual Basic and C#. (From these two languages, the syntax for Microsoft Visual Basic .NET can also be derived.) I will also discuss some of the idiosyncrasies of the Word object model, and why particular techniques may be better to use, rather than other, more obvious, approaches. You can download the sample projects as *.bas and the lily blake, *.cs files for Word Visual Basic for Applications, Visual Basic 6.0, and C#. The code generates a document in Word with tables created and Dying Essay, formatted using the methods discussed in this article. Table functionality has changed to a greater or lesser extent in the lily every version of Word since Microsoft Word 97. Tables in Microsoft Word 2000 acquired HTML (Web) table characteristics; among other things, columns can resize automatically to fit cell content and you can size them as a percentage of the A Lesson Dying, whole. Microsoft Word 2002 tables gained the the lily william blake, ability to support text wrapping around the table, as well as within table cells. In Word 2003, tables formatted with text wrapping can be set to break to the next page (this was not possible in Word 2002). So, if you are programming for multiple versions of Word, you need to be aware that Word 97, Word 2000, Word 2002, and graduate essay, Word 2003 can differ significantly, depending on the lily blake what you want to do. Do not assume that what you develop in one version works in other versions; be sure to install all versions and test your code with each of them. Improving Performance When Automating Tables.

Performance is often an issue when automating Word, especially when creating tables. Working with tables in Word 2000 or later versions can be slow, mostly due to the new Web capabilities mentioned above. Word has to do a lot of work in the background to calculate the page layout. One way to speed things up: Do not automate Word at all when creating a document. Write an RTF, HTML, or, for Word 2003, an XML file. To learn more about RTF, see the Rich Text Format (RTF) Specification, version 1.6 . To learn more about XML files, see the article What You Can Do with Word XML . Find information about all three file formats in control for care the Microsoft Knowledge Base article Information About How to Extract Office File Formats and Schemas. If you do automate Word, move things along more swiftly by building the table in the view state requiring the william blake, fewest resources: the Normal view. The Normal view is optimized for performance, and is not what you see is what you get (WYSIWYG). For things that require exact page layout, such as positioning graphics with text flow formatting, you need to be in the Print Layout view. But Normal view is optimal for dumping in and formatting large quantities of text and tables.

In addition, you can restrict screen updating and suppress automatic pagination in Normal view, speeding execution even more. When creating a table, ensure that it behaves as tables did in Word 97, before the addition of the new Web features. You can later enable or set any of the newer features, but while creating the table it is advisable to turn them off by setting the DefaultTableBehavior to wdWord8TableBehavior , as shown in the following code sample. Remember that a Word table may contain a maximum of 64 columns. Vodafone Annual Report. The Tables.Add method shown here is the same in Word 2000, 2002, and 2003; the last two arguments are not used or allowed in the lily william blake Word 97; code containing them does not compile for Gifts of the Spirit Essay Word 97. The VBA documentation is a more complete source of information available on the Word object modelbut test the the lily william, assumptions, as it is not entirely error free. For example, the information about the of the Essay, AutoFitBehavior argument says Sets the AutoFit rules for how Word sizes tables.

Can be one of the following WdAutoFitBehavior constants: wdAutoFitContent , wdAutoFitFixed , or wdAutoFitWindow . The Lily. If DefaultTableBehavior is set to wdWord8TableBehavior , this argument is ignored. However, testing Tables.Add as in the sample code and then again using wdAutoFitWindow reveals that the argument is Essay not ignored completely. When you use wdAutoFitWindow the table resizes to exactly fit within the document's left and right margins if these are changed. wdAutoFitContent , however, does not come into effect if you set wdWord8TableBehavior as the DefaultTableBehavior . William Blake. Word can lay out the page faster when you use wdAutoFitFixed . Even if you use all of the possible performance optimization techniques, you find that very long tables slow things down in Word. In this case, you may want to consider breaking the table into multiple, smaller tables. Usually, when I insert a table into A Lesson Before Dying Essay Word through automation I intend to blake fill that table with data. Intuitively, most developers insert a table with one or two rows and the requisite number of columns, and annual, then proceed to the lily blake add rows, one after the other, as needed. Only when they test with a large number of records do they notice that this process is slow.

Next, they attempt to analysis determine the the lily blake, number of hydrogen rows required, create the table with all the rows, then loop through cell by the lily blake, cell to fill in the data. Unfortunately, this is not significantly faster. The following code demonstrates these two techniques. Be careful when inserting objects into Gifts Holy a cell range. The Word object model allows you to assign things to Table.Cell(index, index).Range , just as to blake any other range.

But if you do not collapse the range to the cell's starting point ( Direction:=wdCollapseStart ) you may insert objects (such as pictures) into the table structure, rather than into the cell that you intended. Note that the Text property is the default for the Range property; assigning a string to Gifts Holy Spirit a cell's Range property is allowed in the classic Visual Basic languages (and Visual Basic .NET if Option Strict is the lily not on). Control Policy. This does not damage the table structure because the the lily, string is assigned to the Text property, behind the scenes. Also be aware, when working with arrays and data tables that writing to report 2013 the cell index zero ( tbl.Cell(0,0).Range.Text ) damages the the lily william, table structure and crashes Word. The first cell in a Word table is index 1, 1. The most efficient way to create a table of data in a Word document is to concatenate the tesco stakeholders analysis, data into a delimited string, assign it to a document range, and then convert the range to a table.

The samples below use a tab character as the field delimiter, but you may use any character. The record delimiter, however, must be ANSI 13 (a carriage return). Place the content of each field within a pair of single or double quotes if the field or record delimiter could be part of the field data. You can find a code example for the lily william blake Visual Basic .NET, using data from a Web service in the article Working with ADO.NET Datasets in Microsoft Office . Formatting Tables Programmatically in Word. In order to apply formatting, you must specify to what you are applying it.

As with filling a table with data, it is graduate essay faster to apply formatting to ranges or groups of william blake cells, rather than to A Lesson Before Essay process formatting cell-by-cell. You can assign an william entire table to a range, as well as entire rows; multiple, contiguous rows; or multiple, contiguous cells within a row. To work with an entire column, multiple, contiguous columns, or a contiguous set of graduate essay cells within the table that do not extend across entire rows, you must first select the the lily william blake, columns or cells, then apply formatting to the selection. You cannot assign columns and blocks of of the cells to a range because the the lily blake, information is not contiguous within the document's text flow. Before Dying. Example to select a group of blake cells within a table: Example to select a set of columns: You can apply several types of formatting to tables: direct formatting, character and graduate essay, paragraph styles, table AutoFormats, andin Word 2002 or Word 2003table styles (custom table AutoFormats). Styles are usually preferable to direct formatting for a number of reasons: Efficiency . When you apply formatting with a style, you apply multiple attributes in a single step.

You type less code, it executes more quickly, and you are less likely to encounter the infamous Out of memory message that appears in the Word windowand stops code execution until the user dismisses it. Word tracks editing actions taken in a document to support the Edit/Undo functionality. Word tracks this information in temp and scratch files, which have a limited size. When the amount of information exceeds the available space allotted by Word, the Out of the lily memory message appears. In addition to streamlining the amount of information Word tracks by using styles, three more actions may help you avoid this error message: 1. Make sure AllowFastSaves is turned off. Stakeholders Analysis. (This out-dated feature that is retained for the lily william compatibility reasons is no longer necessary with modern computers.) 2. A Lesson Dying. Execute Document.UndoClear to blake clear the Undo list. 3. Allow Word to perform clean-up by periodically saving the file to disk. Consistency and uniformity . Consistent formatting of all items of the same type is very important in reports and other large documents. It is much easier to keep track of formatting when you use styles rather than many separate formatting commands. Maintenance . If the report 2013, document you produce is saved, edited, and william blake, re-used, it is more efficient to work with styles. For example, if you want to change the color of all table headings from black to blue, you can adjust the style definition, and all the table headings change. If you do not use styles, you must find, select, and apply the required formatting to each table heading.

The person designing the Word document should make the graduate essay, decision to use paragraph and character styles, or AutoFormats and the lily blake, table styles, or a combination. Tesco. Normally, you can achieve finer control of text formatting with paragraph and character styles. AutoFormat and table styles provide a quick way to apply table-specific formatting (borders, shading, formatting of the lily first and last columns and rows). If you decide to vodafone annual report use a table style, and plan to control font formatting through the table style, be sure to create the table from a paragraph formatted with the Normal style. Any other paragraph or character style overrides the font formatting defined in the lily blake the table style. The following sample code demonstrates how to Gifts create a table style and apply it to all the tables in the lily a document. Figure 2 shows the result. Word can repeat a specified number of heading rows at the top of every page if a table breaks automatically to a new page. Before Dying Essay. It is not possible, however, to display different text, such as Continued. . ., in repeated heading rows. Be sure to apply HeadingFormatting in the lily the finishing stages of your code.

Applying a table style or AutoFormat overrides this setting. Controlling how a table breaks to a new page is another aspect of table formatting. You can prevent rows from splitting across pages by setting the AllowPageBreaks property of the infection control, Table and Row objects. This property has no effect on vertically merged cells. Sometimes, you are required to link data into a document from another application.

The user would usually copy the data, or use one of the Word tools to import it. (For example, on the Edit menu, click Paste Special with Link , or, on the lily william the Data toolbar, click Insert Database or, on the Insert menu, point to Object , and then click From File with Link .) In Word 2003 and in recent service packs for Word 2000 and Word 2002, new security measures prevent fields that link in outside data from updating automatically. For more information, see the Microsoft Knowledge Base article How the Behavior of the control, Word Fields Changes After You Install the Word Update. There are, of course, equivalent commands in the Word object model, but they are not usually the best choice for the developer. The InsertObject and InsertDatabase methods are difficult to get working correctly. Due to differences in how individual machines may be configured, if you get them working on william blake one computer, they may not work on the next. Paste Special does not have this kind of problem, but it is not considered polite to interfere with the user's Clipboard. Infection Homes. Instead, often the most reliable and efficient approach is to re-create the final result of using the the lily, commands in the Word interface: inserting Link and vodafone 2013, Database fields directly.

Link fields use OLE to bring live data into Word. Database fields can, like mail merge, bring in data through Dynamic Data Exchange (for Microsoft Office Excel and the lily, Microsoft Office Access), Open Database Connectivity (ODBC), or (in Word 2002 and 2003) OLE DB. Essay. Where possible, I recommend using ODBC for the Database field connections. Newer installations and versions of Word do not support DDE well and the lily, the Database field does not always store all the necessary information to update an annual OLE DB connection. The Lily William Blake. ODBC is more broadly supported and tesco, more stable. To determine the syntax you need to link to a particular application, go through the steps in the user interface, then press Alt+F9 to william blake toggle on the field codes. Infection Policy. For an Excel spreadsheet, for example, you see something like: . (Although pasting always uses an R1C1 cell reference, you can substitute a range name, if you prefer to the lily blake work with a named Excel range.

The following code sample demonstrates this.) To create a table from an Excel file, you must either create an Excel file or use one you already have and change the path in the code to point to bubbles it. To insert this field using the Word object model, use the Fields.Add method: When programming for international use, remember that English field names are used in all language versions of Word 2000 and later. The Lily Blake. For Word 97, you need to use the tesco analysis, local language field names, switches, and functions. The Type argument of the Fields.Add method enables you to specify the field type, and Word automatically inserts the appropriate field name for william blake the current local language. But you may need to change the rest of the field content (in the Text argument). Consult the Word Help files for detailed information about individual Word fields and their switches. The * Mergeformat switch is not field-specific but it plays an important role with linked tables. (The * Mergeformat switch corresponds to the PreserveFormatting argument of the Fields.Add method.) This switch tells Word to retain table and font formatting applied to the table when the field updates.

If it is not present in the field, formatting reverts when the vodafone report, field updates. If the number of rows (records) in william the field result increases, new rows may not pick up direct formatting applied in Word. The * Mergeformat switch also saves where formatting is applied in Gifts Holy Spirit a field result. Therefore, if the number of records a linked table displays can vary (increase) when the field updates, the formatting may appear inconsistent. In this case, do not use the the lily william, * Mergeformat switch; consider using a table AutoFormat or table style instead. The * Mergeformat switch does not work correctly in the original release of Word 2000. Hydrogen Bubbles. Service packs for that version corrected the bug. Besides the the lily blake, * Mergeformat switch, you can use a table AutoFormat to control the appearance of a Database field. In contrast to the switch, a table AutoFormat applies correctly even if the size of the table changes, and saves and is editable as part of the control for care homes, field code (see the b and l switches in the lily william the Word Help). You can link table data in through a field as an alternative to reading data from another source and then creating a table from it in Word. After you link to the outside table, you can apply the Unlink method to graduate essay break the link, turning it into a plain Word table.

This can save a lot of time (because you write less code), and the lily william blake, the performance is infection for care homes sometimes improved. The Lily. You cannot extract data from a closed Word document in its native, binary file format (unless you are a C++ programmer and you have obtained the Before, BIFF information from Microsoft). If the user saves the document in william HTML, RTF, or (for Word 2003) XML file format, then you can use the graduate essay, usual tools to open these files and parse out the information without needing to use Word. For more information about Word-specific information for these file formats see Microsoft Office Developer Center: Word. For more information about Office binary file formats see the Microsoft Knowledge Base article Information about how to extract Office file formats and schemas. Otherwise, you must open the document in Word to get at its content. The most intuitive way to blake pull out table information is to process the table cell by cell. As when writing data into a table, this method is slow. It is more efficient to convert the table to delimited text, pass it to a string variable, and then work with it. Vodafone Annual. If the table contains merged cells, Word automatically splits the cells so that the delimited text string contains the same number of fields (cells) for every record.

The value that was in the lily blake the merged cell is in the first field/record where Word encountered the stakeholders analysis, merged cell; the the lily blake, other fields derived from the tesco stakeholders analysis, merged cell are empty. There is, therefore, no way to distinguish between fields that were part of merged cells and fields derived from cells that were empty. The Lily Blake. If you need to know what cells were merged it is recommended that you save the Holy, table or document to a filtered HTML file and then parse the HTML file. Merged table cells have a colspan or rowspan property after they convert to HTML format. Do not use a field delimiter that is contained in the table data. Also, if the table data contains any paragraph marks, you must replace them with another character before converting the table to text, and the lily william, then restore them in the text passed to the string variable. You can convert the table to text directly in the document (then use the policy for care, Undo method to the lily william reverse the process or, alternatively, close the document without saving).

If this approach presents problems (for example, the graduate essay, user is or will be working in the document) it is also possible to the lily blake reproduce the table in a new document and hydrogen bubbles, convert it to text. When working with Word 2003, you can pick up the table information as XML directly from the table range. You must set DataOnly to false and pick up the WordProcessingML, which is quite verbose. This article does not address all of the aspects about automating Word tables, but it can help you get a good start. If you decide to the lily william blake, incorporate a relevant personal experience into your essay, avoid including details that are too personal, or overly gratuitous.

You don't want to be off-putting or show a lack of good judgment. Program-specific essay information. Usually, applicants write one essay that they submit to many or perhaps even all of the programs to which they are applying. It is uncommon, and not generally recommended, to write a different essay for each program, nor is it possible to do so through the central application services (CAS). The only exception is hydrogen peroxide bubbles noted below, in relation to directed essays with custom questions. Consult CAS FAQs and program websites for essay requirements and submission processes. The Lily William? There are dozens of non-CAS programs, and each will have its own essay submission process. For CAS programs: OTCAS FAQs - Click Personal Statement PTCAS FAQs - Click Essay CASPA FAQs - Click Narrative (Personal Statement) Information As part of the infection control for care homes, primary application, some programs require that you submit responses to a directed essay or custom questions posed by the program instead of blake or in addition to Gifts Holy Spirit, the general essay you'll submit to all programs. Therefore there's a good chance you'll need to the lily william blake, write two or more different essays. In some instances you may need to write responses to custom questions largely from scratch, but often you can pull content and ideas from your general essay and blend them into your responses to custom questions.

Custom questions often ask applicants to write about how their goals and values align with the program's mission statement or statement of vodafone annual report 2013 values. If so, you might incorporate values and terminology from these statement into your essay. Many programs ask applicants to submit a brief autobiographical essay, sometimes explicitly asking applicants not to talk about their career choice. It is the lily blake neither feasible nor desirable to attempt a through autobiography in a page or two. There are many ways to approach this project. Dying Essay? For example, you could try to judiciously identify one or two defining moments from your life and use them as a brief autobiographical lens which offers insight into who you are, your values, a defining characteristic, or otherwise conveys something interesting about you.

Some programs may also require that you submit written responses to additional questions during a secondary or supplemental application process , once you have submitted the blake, primary application (whether through the CAS or directly to the program itself for graduate essay non-CAS programs). In these cases, applicants can sometimes pull content or ideas from their master essay and customize them according to secondary application questions. Other times, secondary application questions may need to be written from scratch, but should be drafted with the same care and the lily william blake professionalism as the personal essay itself. While some programs place more emphasis on the essay than others, you must always consider the vodafone annual report 2013, essay, and any other written responses, to william blake, be an integral part of your application. Always have at least one full backup copy of the latest draft of your essay, preferably two, saved on different devices , even in the earliest stages of william brainstorming and writing. Investing 20 seconds in the short run to create a couple of master backups can save you hours or even weeks of policy homes misery trying to recreate what has been needlessly lost. We have seen applicants lose their entire completed essay because they did not create backups. As you write , save your document every couple of minutes, or set your word processor to the lily william, auto-save every minute or two.

Losing even 20 minutes of work is frustrating and hydrogen unnecessary. Before making major revisions , create a new version of the essay using the Save As feature, so that you can always go back to the earlier version if need be. Every time you are finished working for the time being , update your backups to the latest version of your master document - the draft-in-progress. Perhaps visit program websites and hydrogen peroxide bubbles read their program philosophy or mission statements. Doing so can give you a sense of what ideals and goals seem most important to them, which may in turn help you generate ideas, and even help clarify what is important to william, you as well. Important: Revisit the section, Putting the personal in personal essay. By making time to follow the writing guidelines there, you will develop ideas that could very well become the core of your essay. (Remember to save your notes periodically, and create backups.) Write down or word-process your thoughts with regard to each of the following questions, which often form the basis of admission essays. For now, don't worry about annual 2013 sentence-level issues like punctuation, or about writing things in essay format. Even a rough bulleted list in response to each question is fine. You're simply brainstorming ideas at this point.

Why do I want to be an [OT / PT / PA]? What are the reasons I have specifically chosen to pursue [OT / PT / PA] instead of william one of the hundreds of control for care homes other possible healthcare careers? (Hint: be more specific than I want to help people. While this is a perfectly valid reason, it describes thousands of different professions.) What specific steps have I taken to make this decision? Have I shadowed in a variety of settings? - which kinds? (Remember that OTs, PTs, and blake PAs do practice in a wide variety of graduate essay settings!) Additional questions you might consider: Have I discovered anything interesting or impactful through reading related professional journals in the library? What kind of paid or voluntary work have I done interacting directly with patients, clients, or others in need? Have I garnered experience working with or on behalf of underserved populations? Have I been meaningfully involved in a student organization? (Not mandatory - remember, these are simply brainstorming questions.) Remember to the lily william blake, save your notes periodically, and create backups. Assessing and recounting your preprofessional experiences. It is very common for applicants to incorporate anecdotal descriptions of a few clinical observation, direct patient care, and / or pertinent volunteer experiences into their personal essays.

If you do so in Before Essay a thoughtful, detailed manner, these experiences could even become the linchpins of your essay, and can be an effective way to william, show admissions committees that you have seriously considered your chosen career path, why it is a good fit for Spirit Essay you, and blake what you hope to someday offer your own patients or clients. Next then, look more closely at Holy Spirit, the experiences you highlighted in william blake your notes, as suggested above. The key at this point is to assess these experiences, and incorporate additional details into your descriptions of Holy Spirit them. Review the writing you did for the Putting the personal in personal essay section of this page. If you have followed those guidelines, you already have a good start on what we suggest below. If you have not yet done so, do it now. It won't take more than an hour or two and the lily william will help you tremendously as you draft your essay. In relation to the clinical observation experiences you highlighted in your notes, list the variety of skills, knowledge, personal attributes, and professional attributes exhibited by the professionals you shadowed. What did you learn about the profession that you did not know prior to hydrogen bubbles, shadowing? How did your experiences refine your impressions of the profession, and the lily the kind of professional you wish to tesco, become?

How did what you observe confirm your interest in pursuing the profession? Add these lists, thoughts, and ideas to your essay notes. The Lily William? Read through the notes you jotted down in response to the preparation questions and see if any of those thoughts can lend support or detail to bubbles, the recounting of your experiences. Do the same kind of assessment In relation to the most impactful of the patient care and/ or volunteer experiences you highlighted in the lily your notes. List the skills, knowledge, personal attributes, and professional attributes that you yourself have begun to develop, or have strengthened. 2013? Add these lists, thoughts, and ideas to your essay notes.

Next, in your essay notes, try writing out each experience as a kind of the lily blake story - a narrative - that you are telling the vodafone annual report, reader. (Remember to save your notes periodically, and the lily william create backups.) Writers often find it easiest to write long and vodafone annual edit down. Blake? At this stage, write out all your thoughts and ideas without worrying about graduate essay length. You can edit things down later. Applicants will often be as specific in their essay as, . For instance, when shadowing an [OT / PT / PA] at such and such a place, I observed the [OT / PT / PA] treat a patient who was in this or that circumstance, and interact with the blake, patient in this or that manner, and Gifts Holy here is william what happened, this was the outcome. As part of the narrative, applicants will often fold in policy for care homes their assessment of the the lily, experience (as described above): From this experience, I learned this and that. or This experience helped me realize / decide this and that. Again, this level of specificity can greatly enhance a personal statement. It can reduce the chances that admission committees will have to read between the tesco stakeholders, lines and guess what you mean, or, worse, assume that you really have not thought much about your goals and your reasons for blake pursuing them. It is certainly not mandatory that you include detailed narratives accounts of your experiences in your essay.

Many applicants find that doing so helps them demonstrate their interest in the profession, and their preparedness for embarking upon the intensive formal training process. No matter how you choose to vodafone annual report, present what you learned from your experiences, remember that vagueness and blake over-generalization are the enemies of tesco stakeholders a strong personal essay. The details matter. Assessing and recounting relevant personal experiences. In a fashion similar to blake, that described above, you have the option to include in your essay situations in your own life which, for graduate essay example, taught you something important about life which you have found relevant to the lily william, your career choice, taught you something about what does not so much interest you, or impacted you in other ways you think are directly pertinent to your essay. Tesco Stakeholders Analysis? For example, some applicants recount an experience which helped them develop a core value which then became important to william blake, their choice of tesco analysis career path, or which helped them earlier on develop an the lily blake, interest in helping others or working in healthcare. Some applicants recount their own experience receiving care from hydrogen, a PT or PA, or a grandparent's experience with an OT. Remember that including pertinent personal experiences is simply one option, not a requirement. Important: If you decide to incorporate a personal experience into your essay, avoid including details that are too personal, or overly gratuitous. You don't want to be off-putting, or show a lack of good judgment.

Congratulations! - if you have made it this far, you have undertaken some preparation and the lily brainstorming, have added additional details, and Before Dying now have what amounts to a rough draft of the lily your essay. As always, save your notes again, and 2013 update your backups. Now it's time to connect part to whole throughout your draft. In essay lingo, this is the the lily william, process of creating coherence . If an essay is coherent it means it flows or progresses from one paragraph to another, one idea to infection control policy, another, one sentence to another in a way that makes sense to the reader. To gain a holistic sense of your draft thus far, read it from top to bottom, including any ideas you noted as you read program websites and other resources during your preparation, as well as your answers to the brainstorming questions, and the details you subsequently added. Identify the central ideas and themes, perhaps underlining or highlighting them. You will almost certainly see connections between different parts of your notes.

For example, you may find that one section or paragraph seems more focused on your initial decision to enter the health fields, while another section serves the purpose of explaining your discovery process, and how you confirmed your specific career path. Perhaps there are sentences or paragraphs focused on how you discovered what you are not interested in, and the reasons for that. Maybe part of the lily william what you've written so far seems to center on your own skill development and personality attributes. Many different central ideas or themes could emerge. Review the information about establishing credibility with the admissions committee and make sure your essay generally reflects these ideas. Convert bullets and incomplete sentences into complete, grammatical thoughts. See if there are lines you want to either expand into new paragraphs or layer into existing paragraphs, or into descriptions of your experiences, adding new details or moving in related content from elsewhere in the draft. Annual 2013? Expand or contract different sections or paragraphs according to what seems most relevant to your essay, and in a manner which will draw in readers and help them understand you and your goals better. As you re-read your draft you will also undoubtedly find yourself deleting notes that seem redundant or less useful to include. Blake? Next, experiment with re-arranging the sections and vodafone annual report 2013 / or paragraphs in different ways, to william, see what arrangement seems most coherent, offers the greatest impact, or follows the tesco, flow of your career decision process (it is not necessary to arrange your essay chronologically - doing so is simply one option among many).

Once you have tentatively arranged the various parts of your draft in a way which seems effective, revise your paragraphs and add transitions so as to the lily william blake, create coherence from hydrogen, one paragraph to william blake, the next, and one section to the next. Avoid needless repetition or summaries. Personal essays must be coherent and well-organized, but, unlike the classic essay format, the introduction of this particular kind of essay need not foreshadow the main points covered in the body. In fact, doing so usually detracts from the overall impact of what you've written simply because the for care homes, essay is so brief to the lily william blake, begin with. Similarly, unlike the classic essay format, your conclusion should probably not summarize. Doing so usually results in needless repetition, and isn't necessary since the Gifts Holy Essay, reader would have just read the summarized information in the previous few paragraphs anyway.

Summarizing in an essay this brief is also a waste of precious space which could be used to convey additional new information to blake, the admissions committee. It is often easier to Spirit, write the introduction and conclusion last, once you have a sense of the overall content and tone of the body. In fact, once you have a solid draft of the blake, body written (i.e., once you have gone through a drafting process similar to infection control for care, that described previously on this page), you may find that you can actually transform two of your existing paragraphs into your introduction and conclusion, rather than writing an introduction and conclusion from scratch. With this method, almost any paragraph conveying a specific idea, theme, point of self-assessment, or related anecdote could become your opening or closing paragraph. Experiment with moving different paragraphs into the position of the lily introduction and see if one seems like a compelling way to draw in the reader. Do the same with the conclusion and see if any of your paragraphs can stand on their own as a way to draw the essay to a satisfying conclusion, leaving the reader with a positive impression of you or with an interesting final insight into you or your goals. Or you might also find that one of your paragraphs is particularly representative of the themes or ideas conveyed throughout the essay, and could serve as a kind of wrap up without actually being redundant. If you do in fact have paragraphs that seem able to become your introduction and conclusion then sometimes just rearranging a sentence or two, or adding one or two additional sentences at of the Holy, the end of what has become your intro, can create a segue into the body of the the lily, essay.

Similarly, sometimes adding a sentence or two as a parting thought to the end of what has become your concluding paragraph can serve as a sufficient outro, and bring the essay to a satisfying conclusion. If you feel doing the above doesn't seem adequate, or makes the essay less coherent, another option is to experiment with a one or two sentence conclusion; for Dying example, re-expressing your enthusiasm for the field or thanking the admissions committee for considering your application. (This method doesn't work as well with introductions.) Before resorting to the lily, this method, try the other ideas described above, which often result in the strongest introductions and homes conclusions. That said, there is nothing wrong with an outro which consists of just a sentence or two. Revise Into A Refined And Complete Draft. At this stage your essay no longer looks like a set of william notes, and you instead have a coherent and vodafone annual report more or less complete draft. Below you will find important reminders about the content of your essay, common mistakes to avoid, and tips to help you produce the most professional, refined final draft possible. Avoid needless redundancy. Don't repeatedly state the same thought, sentence, or phrase unless there is a valid stylistic or rhetorical reason for william doing so. Remember that vagueness and over-generalization are the enemies of a strong personal essay. Specificity is A Lesson Before Essay key. Avoid generalities and clichés like, I am very passionate about.

I love working with people. or I have always wanted to be an [OT / PT / PA]. Such generalities and cliche's tell admission committees nothing about the lily you. Hence, these language choices can give the Before Dying Essay, impression that you have not thought in detail about your reasons for pursuing the profession, or not done a thorough assessment of the william, specific experiences and attributes that will enable you to succeed in vodafone 2013 graduate school and become an the lily william, excellent practitioner in the profession. You may indeed feel passionate about pursuing the profession (in fact, if you don't, you should be pursuing something else!), but you need to demonstrate how the passion developed, and how you have channeled that energy into graduate essay your preparation. William Blake? Do so by using specific language to describe how your shadowing, patient care experience, volunteer work, academics, and so on, clearly reflect your devotion to the profession. And you have not always wanted to be a [PT / OT / PA].

It is vodafone report more effective to explain how you actually developed your interest in the lily blake the field. Avoid oversimplifying the profession. You know enough about Holy it to have decided to the lily, pursue it, but there is much you don't know. Graduate Essay? That's okay because the purpose of the essay is not to define the profession or explain everything you know about it. Relatedly, remember that OTs, PTs, and the lily PAs practice in a wide variety of settings, so be careful to avoid falling into a clichéd or two-dimensional understanding of the given field. For example, PTs are not just sports rehab. They can also work in wound care, burn recovery, stroke rehab, prosthetics, and many other settings. The same idea holds true for OT and PA. The name or title of the profession, be it occupational therapist, physical therapist, or physician assistant, is not a proper noun and so need not be capitalized. It is fine to hydrogen bubbles, use the abbreviation - OT, PT, PA - to refer to either the field or to someone practicing within the william, field (i.e., Later that summer, I shadowed another PA, this time in the emergency room of Center Hospital.

Or, . the ever-expanding PT profession. ). Alternating in some fashion between the full tern and tesco analysis its abbreviation is a good way to avoid sounding repetitious. Note to pre-PA students: The construct, physician assistant, tends to be fairly standard. You might also see physician's assistant (with an apostrophe s) or physicians assistant (plural s), but these are used less commonly. In any case, be sure to use the same construct throughout your essay, and double-check that you don't accidentally use more than one way of referring to the profession. Maintain patient privacy when describing clinical observation and any direct patient care experience. It is perfectly fine to the lily blake, describe symptoms, treatments, and interactions with patients, but you should never use a person's real name.

Instead, you can refer to them using pronouns (he, she, they). if this seems cumbersome or confusing, it is Before Dying Essay also standard practice to substitute a made up name for blake the real name if it will help your writing flow better; for tesco stakeholders example, My very first experience offering direct patient care was treating an athlete - I'll call him Ted - for heatstroke. . For additional patient privacy information visit HIPPA - Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act. The Lily? Your essay should be perfectly free of typos and spelling / grammatical errors. Hydrogen? Some admission committees stop reading after two or three such mistakes, and literally drop the offending essay onto the No pile. Professionalism is crucial. Just as college is a step up from blake, high school, graduate school is a step (or two) up from your undergraduate degree.

Some admission representatives have told us they stop reading a personal statement after the third mistake (whether spelling, typo, or grammar). Few things in life need to be perfect, or nearly so. The proofing of your final draft is one of tesco them, because it speaks to your professionalism, care, and attention to detail. Use an automatic spell checker on your final draft. Then, print a hardcopy and meticulously proofread it. Eliminate every single typo and spelling error, and the lily william blake every single grammatical error. * Scrutinize your essay for usage errors that a spell checking program will often miss; for example, mistakenly using weather instead of whether , ceratin instead of control homes certain , affect instead of effect . You can also do a Find And Replace to see if you are over the lily william using a certain word or phrase. If you find this to be the Essay, case, replace some instances with a different way of saying the same thing.

You can also search for hard to spot typos. For example, to find places where you have accidentally inserted an extra space between words, in the Find box hit the spacebar twice, in the lily william blake Replace hit it once, and click Replace All. When you think it is perfectly proofed, set your essay aside for a couple of days, and control policy for care then proofread it again with fresh eyes, slowly and meticulously. * For this particular specialized document, instead of consulting IUB Writing Tutorial Services staff or documentation for feedback related to the lily william blake, the actual content or style of Spirit Essay your essay, you are best off first following the guidelines throughout this webpage. 19 Reasons Why This Is An Excellent Resume. Recruiters spend an the lily, average of peroxide six seconds reviewing a resume before they make the initial decision on candidates, according to research conducted by TheLadders, an the lily, online job-matching service for of the Holy Spirit Essay, professionals. That means you have to win them over fast. To get a better idea of what makes a resume great, we reached out to Amanda Augustine, career expert at the lily blake, TheLadders. She created an example of an peroxide bubbles, excellent resume and allowed us to william blake share it. While resumes should be tailored to A Lesson Dying the industry you're in, the one below offers a helpful guide for entry- and mid-level professionals with three to five years of relevant work experience.. What makes this resume so great? Augustine outlines the following reasons: 1. It includes a URL to the lily blake the jobseeker's professional online profile.

If you don't include URLs to your professional online profiles, hiring managers will look you up regardless. Augustine tells Business Insider that 86% of recruiters admit to reviewing candidates' online profiles, so why not include your URL along with your contact information? This will prevent recruiters from having to guess or mistaking you for someone else. If you have a common name, consider including your middle initial on your resume and online professional profiles to differentiate yourself from the competition, says Augustine. For example, decide if you're Mike Johnson, Michael Johnson, or Mike E. Johnson. Then use this name consistently, be it on control for care homes, LinkedIn, Google+, Twitter, or Facebook. 3. It includes a single phone number and email address. William Blake. Choose one phone number for your resume where you control the voicemail message and who picks up the hydrogen peroxide bubbles phone, she advises. The same rule applies to an email address. William. 4. It does not include an objective statement.

There's no point in including a generic objective about a professional looking for opportunities that will allow me to leverage my skills, says Augustine. It's not helpful and distracting. Essay. Ditch it. 5. Instead, it includes an executive summary. Replace your fluffy statement with an executive summary, which should be like a 30-second elevator pitch where you explain who you are and what you're looking for . In approximately three to the lily william five sentences, explain what youre great at, most interested in, and Holy Essay how you can provide value to a prospective employer, Augustine says. William Blake. 6. It uses reverse chronological order. This is the most helpful for recruiters because they're able to graduate essay see what you've been doing in blake recent years immediately, says Augustine. The only Dying Essay, time you shouldn't do this is if you're trying to transition to another career altogether, but then again, in blake this situation, you'll probably be relying more on networks, than your resume, she says. 7. It uses keywords like forecasting and strategic planning. Many companies use some kind of screening process to identify the right candidates.

You should include the infection for care homes keywords mentioned in the lily william blake the job posting throughout your resume. Identify the common keywords, terminology, and key phrases that routinely pop up in hydrogen bubbles the job descriptions of the lily william your target role and incorporate them into your resume (assuming you have those skills), advises Augustine. This will help you make it past the A Lesson Essay initial screenings and on to the recruiter or hiring manager. 8. It provides company descriptions. It's helpful for recruiters to know the william size of the company you used to work for, advises Augustine. Being a director of control policy for care a huge company means something very different than a director at a small company, she says.

You can go to the company's About Us section and rewrite one or two lines of the description. This should be included right underneath the name of the the lily william blake company. While the hydrogen company size is helpful information, including the company description will also let the hiring manager know what industries you've worked in. Blake. For example, being an accountant in tech may be very different than being an accountant in the hospitality industry. As with most things on a resume, the company description should be tailored based on of the Holy Essay, the professional's goals. If you're looking to switch industries, your focus may be on the company size assuming it's similar to your goals and less on blake, discussing the various products your company sells. 9. It does not list achievements in dense blocks of hydrogen peroxide bubbles text. Recruiters receive so many resumes to scan through at a time, so make it as easy as possible for them to understand why you're perfect for the job.

Dense blocks of text are too difficult to read, says Augustine.. 10. Instead, achievements are listed in the lily william blake two to five bullet points per job. Under each job or experience you've had, explain how you contributed to tesco or supported your teams projects and the lily william initiatives. As you build up your experience, save the bullets for your bragging points, says Augustine. Quantify your major accomplishments and of the Holy Essay contributions for each role, Augustine tells us. This can include the money you saved or brought in for your employer, deals closed, and projects delivered on the lily, time or under budget. Do not use any more than three to five bullet points. Policy For Care Homes. 12.

Accomplishments are formatted as result-and-then-cause. A good rule is to use the result BY action sentence structure whenever possible. For example: Generated approximately $452,000 in annual savings by employing a new procedure which streamlined the the lily william business's vendor relationships. 13. White space draws the reader's eyes to important points. Recruiters do not spend a lot of time scanning resumes, so avoid dense blocks of text. The key is to format the information in a way that makes it easy to scan and recognize your job goals and relevant qualifications, Augustine tells us. 14. It doesn't use crazy fonts or colors. Stick to black and white color, says Augustine. As for font, it's best to stick with the basics, such as Arial, Tahoma, or Calibri.

Augustine says you should never write your resume in third person because everyone knows you're the one writing it (unless you go through a professional resume writing service). Instead, you should write it in first person, and do not include pronouns. It's weird [to include pronouns], and Holy Spirit it's an extra word you don't need, she says. You need to streamline your resume because you have limited real estate. Avoid adding any embedded tables, pictures, or other images in your resume, as this can confuse the applicant-tracking software and jumble your resume in the system, says Augustine. Blake. 17. It doesn't use headers or footers. It may look neat and concise to display your contact information in of the Essay the header, but for t he same reason with embedded tables and charts, it often gets scrambled in an applicant tracking system, says Augustine.

18. Education is listed at the bottom. Unless you're a recent graduate, you should highlight your work experience and move your education information to the bottom of your resume, says Augustine. Never include anything about your high-school years. 19. It doesn't say references upon request.

Every recruiter knows you're going to provide references if they request it so there's no reason for you to william blake include this line. Again, remember that space on graduate essay, your resume is the lily, crucial so don't waste it on a meaningless line, Augustine tells us. Poem: The Lily by William Blake

Engagement and william, Learning What Is_? Programme. Conceptual art is not about forms or materials, but about ideas and meanings. It cannot be defined in terms of any medium or style, but rather by the way it questions what art is. In particular, Conceptual art challenges the traditional status of the for care homes, art object as unique, collectable and/or saleable. [] This art can take a variety of forms: everyday objects, photographs, maps, videos, charts and especially language itself. Often there will be a combination of such forms. [] Conceptual art has had a determining effect on the thinking of most artists. 1 - Tony Godfrey, 1998. I will refer to the kind of art which I am involved in as conceptual art.

In conceptual art the idea or concept is the most important aspect of the the lily william blake, work. [] The idea becomes a machine that makes the art. Infection Control! [] Conceptual art is not necessarily logical. [] The ideas need not be complex. Most ideas that are successful are ludicrously simple. 2 - Sol LeWitt, 1967. Conceptual art, for blake me, means work in which the idea is paramount and the material form is secondary, lightweight, ephemeral, cheap, unpretentious and/ or dematerialized. Tesco Stakeholders! [] This has not kept commentators over the years from calling virtually anything in unconventional mediums Conceptual art. [] There has been a lot of bickering about what Conceptual art is/was; who began it; who did what when with it; what its goals, philosophy, and the lily william blake, politics were and might have been. I was there, but I don't trust my memory.

I don't trust anyone else's either. And I trust even less the authoritative overviews by those who were not there. 3 - Lucy Lippard, 1972. Concept art is first of all an peroxide art of william blake which the material is concepts, as the vodafone report 2013, material of e.g. music is sound. Since concepts are closely bound up with language, concept art is a kind of art of the lily which the material is language. Peroxide Bubbles! 4 - Henry Flynt, 1961. I chose to work with inert gas because there was not the blake, constant presence of a small object or device that produced the art. Inert gas is a material that is Before Dying, imperceivable - it does not combine with any other element [] That is what gas does.

When released, it returns to the atmosphere from where it came. It continues to expand forever in the atmosphere, constantly changing and it does all of the lily william this without anybody being able to see it. 5 - Robert Barry, 1969. The quotations which begin this essay establish most of the key themes in discussing conceptual art: the priority given to ideas; the ambiguous role of actual objects and materials; the need to graduate essay rethink the the lily, mechanisms of policy for care 'display' and distribution of art; the increasingly important role for language; and the tendency to trouble core definitions both of blake 'art' in general and graduate essay, of 'conceptual art' itself in particular. This repeated play with definitions 'What is the limit of what can be included under the heading art?' 'What is the most reduced and the lily, concise way in which a conceptual artwork can be given for the audience to experience?' makes answering the question 'What is conceptual art?' a little tricky, but also very worthwhile. Perhaps the easiest way to introduce conceptual art is to consider some examples of work typically described as 'conceptual'. Robert Rauschenberg sends a telegram to the Galerie Iris Clert which says: 'This is a portrait of Iris Clert if I say so' as his contribution to tesco stakeholders analysis an exhibition of portraits in the gallery, (1961). 6 Stanley Brouwn asks passers-by in Amsterdam to show him the way to a particular spot in the city using pen and paper, (This way Brouwn, 1961).

7 John Baldessari instructs a sign painter to paint the following words on a canvas: 'Study the composition of paintings. Ask yourself questions when standing in front of a well-composed picture. What format is used? What is the proportion of william blake width to hydrogen bubbles height?', (Composing on a Canvas, 1966-8). 8 Cildo Meireles screen-prints subversive messages onto Coca-Cola glass bottles and re-circulates these so that they are re-used for selling Coca-Cola (Ideological Circuits: Coca-Cola Project, 1970). 9 Joseph Kosuth exhibits a series of the lily william blackand- white photostats of dictionary definitions for words such as 'meaning' and 'universal', (Art as ideas as idea, 1966). Adrian Piper exhibits a short text saying: 'The work originally intended for stakeholders this space has been withdrawn. [] I submit its absence as evidence of the inability of art expression to william blake have a meaningful existence under conditions other than those of peace, equality, truth, trust and freedom,' (1970). 10.

This term 'conceptual art' has become the most widely used name for hydrogen peroxide works such as these, which form a broad spectrum of experimental artworks and practices that developed from the 1960s onwards. These new art practices no longer necessarily depend on the production of discrete one-off physical objects; nor necessarily use traditional media and techniques like picturemaking with paint or modelling with clay or casting with bronze or assembling with metal and wood; nor even demonstrate a specifically pronounced 'visual' or 'hand made' aspect. William! Typically, though not without important exceptions, art making prior to this development had been a matter of working directly within relatively familiar art forms and media painting, sculpture, drawing, and printmaking to produce discrete objects. Conceptual art can make use of these forms on occasion, but it no longer requires these forms in order to produce something that claims an audience's attention as an artwork the emphasis is generally not placed on a specific material artefact nor on infection policy for care homes, hand-crafting or technical-making processes as such, nor even on william, the 'expressive' personality of the artist, but rather on a range of concerns that emphasise the analysis, role of blake 'ideas'. Vodafone Annual! However, such generalisations are really only rough approximations in many ways the list of works provided above could be used as counterexamples: for example, Robert Barry's work with inert gases is centrally based on the lily, a material process, the diffusion of the hydrogen peroxide bubbles, gases into the lily blake the atmosphere; however, this process is not available to vodafone report perception in the usual terms of art viewing. This play off between percept (what is given in the experience) and concept (what is proposed as organising the experience meaningfully) is a recurrent feature of much conceptual art which makes use of the ambiguous interplay of language, perceptual experience and the conceptual organisation of experience. Most commentators identify the blake, period from 1966 to 1972 as the key phase of development: a period that concludes with the canonisation of conceptualism in the controversial international survey exhibition Documenta V in Germany organised by Harald Szeeman, 11 and the first publication of Lucy Lippard's often cited book that maps conceptual art, Six Years: The Dematerialization of the Art Object from 1966 to 1972, in of the Spirit the US. The Lily William! 12 However, this neat packaging of cultural practices in such crisply delimited movements and periods, with clear beginnings and endings, is always, to a greater or lesser degree, misleading, although such periodisations are sometimes useful in summarily introducing complex cultural historical material.

The key problem presented by mapping conceptual art is the degree to which it has come to A Lesson Before reorient the entire field of modern art, so that producing an account of conceptual art opens up a whole range of unresolved issues that continue to vex participants in contemporary art debate. So as a first rough attempt at an answer to the question 'What is conceptual art?', we could propose something like: conceptual art, is the name for a broad tendency to shift the priorities for making, describing, thinking about, giving value to, and the lily, distributing works of art, toward questions of idea rather than technique. This is a tendency that is strongly evident since the hydrogen peroxide bubbles, 1960s. This is a shift from questions of craft process, material artefact, medium, tradition and virtuosity as primary, to questions of intention, meaning, idea and information as foremost in importance. This broad shift in emphasis is evident internationally in william blake the work of graduate essay artists from many countries including Argentina, Australia, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Italy, Japan, Russia, the Netherlands, New Zealand, the UK, and the United States, from the 1960s onwards. While some have identified conceptual art primarily with New York and North America, and thus with an the lily blake English-speaking cultural context, others have worked hard to overcome this bias by exploring the rich and culturally diverse examples of conceptualism globally. 13.

But one of the problems with this answer is that it seems to stakeholders isolate conceptual art from a broader set of developments in post World-War II culture, such as pop art and the lily william, minimalism, as well as wider developments in control policy for care literature, poetry, theatre, performance and mass media. The Lily Blake! Part of the problem here is the way in which the academic discipline of infection control policy homes art history, especially in its popularised form in william blake glossy publications and television programmes, likes to talk of 'styles' and 'movements' and to anchor these notions by describing the visual appearance of, and techniques used in producing artefacts such as paintings and sculptures. Clearly, when artists begin to prioritise ideas and begin to use ideas from a wide range of sources science, philosophy, sociology, literary theory, media and communications studies, cybernetics, ecological activism, and counter cultural politics for example the old art historical conventions of Before Essay 'movements' and 'styles' potentially become obstacles to establishing a broad and rich sense of a wide-ranging re-orientation of the global art system. (Of course another problem of academic art history can often be its preoccupation with being 'correct' and exact in its use of terms, which can lead to a lot of hair-splitting and angels dancing on the heads of william blake pins, so let's not lose too much sleep over our rough answer to the question 'What is conceptual art?') One important dimension of conceptual art (which it is difficult to infection control policy for care address in an answer like the one given above), is its relationship with counter-cultural tendencies and with various forms of international cultural politics such as feminism, the anti-war movements, and various forms of william blake activism and dissent. A key work of the 1970s and critically important for Before Essay the development of the lily william feminist cultural practice and debate is Mary Kelly's Post-Partum Document, which is in part a reworking of conceptual art approaches to the exhibition as 'system' and a use of the archive as a medium of display (presenting images, diagrams, documents, artefacts in a systematic manner). 14 The exhibition as 'system', refers to the use of cybernetics and systems thinking in various conceptual art projects and in the rethinking of the function and role of exhibition and display. 15 This is not to say that all conceptual art manifested a countercultural tendency: this was not the case. 16 This is to make a claim for the broadening effects of conceptual art in terms of themes and methods in art making which enabled (not caused) the emergence of new cultural practices and debates which foregrounded questions of identity, gender, and class. 17.

Conceptual art and the knowledge economy. Another dimension of conceptual art, which is graduate essay, not fully addressed in this definition, is the the lily blake, ambiguous and complex relationships between conceptual art and changes in the contemporary art market. Some commentators like Lippard emphasise conceptual art's 'dematerialisation' of the art object and identify this with attempts to resist the Before, commercial logic of the art market. Other commentators foreground the role of conceptual art in reshaping the dynamics of the the lily william blake, art market and the nature of what can feasibly be bought and sold. Infection Control Policy For Care Homes! Seth Siegelaub, a key New York gallerist and william, curator since the 1960s, has written: 'The economic aspect of 2013 conceptual art is perhaps most interesting. From the moment when ownership of the work did not give its owner the great advantage of control of the work acquired, this art was implicated in turning back on the question of the value of its private appropriation. How can a collector possess an idea?' 18 Of course this talk of the lily william a new economy of ideas has a familiar ring for contemporary ears, and indeed some writers have identified a connection between such 1960s radical art ideas and twenty-first-century notions of hydrogen 'knowledge economy' and 'cognitive capitalism.' In the 1990s, French sociologists argued that there is a relationship between the kind of creative and imaginative idea-based work proclaimed by 1960s artists and activists as progressive and transformative for society, and the kinds of 'flexible' 'creative' 'idea-generating' and 'immaterial labour' proclaimed by more recent champions of information capitalism and 'flexibilisation' as economically progressive and transformative.

19 This is a very controversial matter, suggesting as it does that in some way work that sought to be socially, politically and the lily william, culturally progressive in the 1960s has become taken-over as economically instrumental thinking by a new form of capitalism that seeks to exploit ever more totally our creative and social being. 20 Others go right back to the 1960s and identify a connection between the new art ideas of conceptualism and the new marketing cultures of Dying Essay corporations. Alexander Alberro has argued that: 'The infusion of corporate funds was a major element in the expansion of the art market during the the lily blake, mid-1960s. [] Many in corporate practice [] imagined new, innovative art as a symbolic ally in the pursuit of entrepreneurship.' 21 This is just one way in which conceptual art continues as a live controversy for contemporary art practice and Before Dying Essay, cultural debate. For some commentators the rise of conceptual art has been nothing less than the betrayal of the visual arts by overly literary and anti-visual cultural practices. 22 For other commentators conceptual art has generated the basis on william blake, which current practice proceeds and, for them, it has established the basic problems and themes with which artists must continue to work. Arguably, conceptual art continues to tesco analysis be the key background for the lily william blake a number of important debates in contemporary art: the analysis, role of the curator; the functions and limits of art institutions (galleries, museums, exhibitions); art as exemplary economy of the 'dematerialised'; the meaning of 'public'-ness in the lily blake art; the appropriate role and limits of mediation, publicity and explication in contemporary art; the inclusions and exclusions that operate in the circuits of global culture; and Holy Essay, the relationship between art practice and knowledge. In the most simple and everyday terms conceptual art has given rise to a new criterion in judgements on art. Encountering a work of art, instead of the question 'Is it beautiful?' or 'Is it moving?' we now find ourselves more often than not, first asking ourselves, 'Is it interesting?' From 1961 to 1969, Harald Szeemann was Curator of the Kunsthalle Bern, where in 1968 he famously gave Christo and Jeanne-Claude the opportunity to wrap the hydrogen peroxide bubbles, entire museum building in william blake an emblematic work of the period. Szeemann's important 1969 exhibition When Attitudes Become Form, at the Kunsthalle, introduced European audiences to infection artists like Joseph Beuys, Eva Hesse, Richard Serra and Lawrence Weiner. It is the lily william blake, often cited as a key moment in the emergence of the modern figure of the 'curator' as indeed has Szeemann's practice in general. See Hans-Joachim Muller, Harald Szeemann: The Exhibition Maker, Hatje Cantz, 2006. A Lesson Dying! Documenta V took place in 1972 as the fifth in the lily william blake the series of major survey shows of international art, which began in 1955.

Curated by annual report, Szeemann, it provided a broad representation of European and North American conceptual art and sparked controversy because of the strong authorial input of Szeemann into the project. Documenta V has become a key reference in debates about the nature of the curator's function in contemporary art. The Lily Blake! L ippard's book prioritises New York and vodafone annual, emphasises the 'dematerialisation' of the artwork. This is a matter of some contest and debate. Jon Bird and Michael Newman have argued: 'Lippard's term implies a logic of subtraction as the materiality of the art object is systematically reduced or redefined, and the concept 'art' and the context increasingly carry the burden of william blake meaning. No single term can adequately describe the various formal and theoretical investigations pursued by artists during this period.' In the hands of intellectuals, artists, and peroxide, political activists, it would become an essential ideological compnent of the 'cultural revolution'.
